| The Activities for Daily Living
Center, Inc. provides meaningful opportunities, resources
and advocacy services for individuals with Autism. The
ADL Center's newest opportunity for families is their
$25,000 grant opportunity in the Pepsi Refresh Challenge.
Their Proposal to 'Teach Kids with Autism and Their Siblings
to Swim for Free' is open for public voting in the grant
tier of 25K in the education category. ADL Center is collaborating
with the Hatboro- Horsham School District to offer the
program free of charge to all district children and their
siblings with challenges and has even left monies in the
grant funding to scholarship area district special needs
kids and their siblings the same opportunity. The beauty
of this program is that it is a swim to PROFICIENCY program
and currently there are no other programs offered like
it in Montgomery County.
With summer here and pools open many families of children
with autism must stay hyper aware of their children's
whereabouts due to the fact that research proves the
number one cause of a death for kids with autism is
by drowning. Statistics prove they are twice as likely
as typically developing children to die in this way.
ADL Center wants to ensure its district children do
not become one of the tragic statistics.
The program proposal was submitted for review by committee
and became available for public vote on June 1, 2011.
ADL Center can only win this grant funding by getting
enough votes to be ranked in the top 15 voted on in
their grant category and tier. They are asking for your
help in the way of your votes. It takes only 2 minutes
a day, but can provide a lifetime of safe and happy
summers to many children and their families. |
